A DIRTY CAT

A Dirty Cat is a solo music project by Jatney that dives into a playful sonic exploration of Alternative, Progressive Rock, Grunge and Metal music.

Drawing inspiration from Nu-Metal headliners like Linkin Park and Korn, the progressive metal sounds of Periphery, the funk-infused metal energy of Primus, and the bewildering progressive rock styles of Coheed & Cambria, Dance Gavin Dance (Post-Hardcore), and Sakanaction (J-Pop/Rock). A Dirty Cat is unapologetically eccentric.

The project pushes boundaries, expressing the modern human experience through observational storytelling and satirical, thought-provoking lyrics.

Jatney’s musical journey began with performing in bands alongside artists like Evan Klar and Kazra, primarily on guitar and bass, and as a solo act at weddings, acoustic guitar and vocals. Despite his passion, he never had formal training in music, following the Asian education cliche of doing something more ‘meaningful’ to the economy. Driven by curiosity, he delved alone into the world of guitar pedals, sparking a love for recording, mixing, and mastering his own compositions. Entirely self-taught, Jatney eventually began releasing his music on major platforms like YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon—initially just to experiment with the full process of music, composition, recording, production and distribution. However, he soon found that he loved every step and puzzle involved in this creative process.
